Amiibo Unlockables, Rewards, and Functionality
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom also includes a variety of unlockable items and rewards using the Amiibo figurines. This page includes a list of all known rewards gained by using Amiibo, how to use them, and exclusive unlockables from using Zelda-themed Amiibo in TotK.
Nintendo revealed on the official Tears of the Kingdom website that "If you scan an Amiibo from The Legend of Zelda series, you can receive helpful materials, weapons or a paraglider fabric based on the Amiibo you scanned." They can be scanned in using the Amiibo Ability you gain automatically during your time on The Great Sky Island, and each Amiibo can be scanned once per day.
In Breath of the Wild, if the Super Smash Brothers Link Amiibo was scanned, the player would receive Epona, Link's Legendary Horse, as a riding companion, and this remains true in Tears of the Kingdom. However, Epona cannot be customized, renamed, tow cargo, or have her stats upgraded.
While the Wolf Link Amiibo that came with the special edition of Twilight Princess HD on the Wii U made Wolf Link appear in Breath of the Wild, he does not appear in Tears of the Kingdom
Players can use a variety of both Legend of Zelda themed Amiibo and non-Zelda Amiibo to scan in to perform a variety of features depending on the particular Amiibo. By doing so, it will cause a variety of rewards to appear:
The list below contains the major and minor unlockable rewards from every Legend of Zelda series Amiibo. Please note that the major item you can get is random, and may require several tries to get them all. For the Smash Bros / Twilight Princess Link, you can keep scanning to get Epona until you register her, or you can scan in places horses cannot go like the Gerudo Desert / Zora's Domain to force other rewards to appear.
